Adding to our previous coverage of lead thefts from prominent roofs in the Cheshire area, we have received notification that Upton-by-Chester’s Holy Ascension Church has also been targeted.
Though we haven’t investigated the site ourselves, we understand that vandals have torn several flashings from around the parapet upstand and damaged the main flat roof covering, resulting in rainwater leaking into the north transept.
Maxiflow are appealing to members of the public to come forward if they have any information at all about these highly upsetting incidents. In our opinion, the petty-minded thieves who have carried out these crimes against churches, libraries, civic halls and war memorials are truly disgusting individuals with no consideration for their own communities.
