St. Mary’s Centre targeted by lead thieves

Roof of St. Mary's Centre in Chester

Lead thieves are continuing to strike in the Cheshire area, this time hitting St. Mary’s Centre in Chester. Previous victims include Chester Cathedral, Neston Civic Hall and Northwich Library.

Vandals have stripped the leadwork from the roof of the main hall and the entranceway, leaving the top of the building unprotected and susceptible to the elements. The former Church of St. Mary-on-the-Hill has become an educational centre and exhibition hall, in addition to being a site of great historical value and a tourist attraction.

Maxiflow are working to replace the lead and restore protection to the Centre. For more information on lead thefts, please read our advisory article.
