Considerate Constructors’ annual National Company Awards was held on Thursday 29th December 2012, an event which aims to recognise companies “for their hard work and dedication towards improving the image of construction”.

Maxiflow representatives Warren Beatty (Contracts Director) and Barry Cooper (Building Foreman) attended the award ceremony, held at the prestigious Plaisterers’ Hall at One London Wall.

Accepting the award on stage, Mr Beatty gave a short speech thanking his fellow team members for their exceptional hard work and extended his gratitude towards the Considerate Constructors Scheme for their generosity in recognising Maxiflow’s achievements.

The fact that we have earned this award is incredible. We are a family-run, local company who are nowhere near the size or scale of some of the companies accepting awards at this event. Yet, we are being recognised as an equal peer on a national stage. We would like to sincerely thank Considerate Constructors for this award and are aiming for a Gold Award next year!

12-Hour Rowathon raises over £4000 for Children in Need!

Team Maxirow at the University of Chester Rowathon

Last Friday, Maxiflow took part in a 12-Hour Rowathon at the University of Chester for Children in Need.

Seven members of the Maxiflow Building team, volunteered their time and energy to help raise money for a good cause, becoming the rowing powerhouse known as Team Maxirow.

Fifty teams on fifty static rowing machines, graciously provided by Concept2, and an astonishing number of competitors filled Downes Sports Hall on the University campus.

You see, we had not anticipated one very important thing: there was no limit on the number of people who could be on one team.

As a result, there were only a handful of teams who maintained the same small group of competitors for the 12 hour duration.

So, a long day felt even longer as Maxirow watched other teams frequently swapping out their entire roster for fresh faces, opting to run their race as a series of sprints instead of a marathon.

However, adrenaline levels were kept high thanks to the spirit of friendly competition. Organizers from the University monitored the total distance covered on each machine and gave frequent updates naming the leading teams.

Hearing that they were consistently in the top 5 gave the lads an incredible push and an incentive to keep forging ahead.

As a result, the members of Team Maxirow pushed themselves to their limit and achieved an incredible Third Place in the competition!

Overall, the event raised over £4000 for Children in Need, easily clearing the target total of £2500.

We would like to thank the organizers from the University of Chester for expertly setting up and moderating the event, which was a ton of fun and should be considered a great success.

Additional thanks to GB Signs who provided our Maxirow.co.uk t-shirts free of charge and sponsored the team!

Special thanks to the members of Team Maxirow:

Restoration of the Willaston Memorial plaque

This weekend marks Remembrance Sunday, a day the entire nation pays tribute to our countrymen who have fallen in times of war.

We will be commemorating the memories of our lost friends and family in private by observing two minutes’ silence at 11am.

On the same day, Christ Church in Willaston will be paying public tribute to their local heroes by unveiling a brand-new memorial plaque.

Last year, the memorial was targeted by reprehensible thieves who stole the previous plaque for its saleable metals. We were on hand to repair the stonework the day after the theft, in a report which was featured on Granada Reports.

The story even caught the attention of the national press, and has recently been featured twice in the Daily Telegraph, illustrating the effect that such disgusting and thoughtless actions have on the public consciousness.

In partnership with Enterpise PLC, we have been hard at work sourcing a replacement plaque for the memorial, in addition to devising an updated security solution to deter future thefts.

This co-ordination has taken many months’ worth of tireless effort by a team including Warren Beatty, Maxiflow Building Contracts Director and Richard Whaley, Cheshire Building Supervisor for Enterprise Property Solutions (pictured above left).

The new plaque was cast in Australia, with attention being paid to ensure every detail, from the lettering to the paintwork, was an appropriate tribute to the brave soldiers it is honouring.

After a long and careful journey, the plaque has been reinstated in its rightful place at Christ Church.

The restored memorial will be officially unveiled at a ceremony on the morning of Sunday 11th November.

Maxiflow score highly on Bentley Motors’ safety league table

Maxiflow High Scorers On Bentley Motors Health and Safety Table

Maxiflow are honoured to have received a top Health & Safety commendation from Bentley Motors!

For over a year, we at Maxiflow have been working in close partnership with Bentley. We have delivered a wide variety of building works at Bentley’s manufacturing facilities in Crewe, from major projects such as providing electrical cabling, drainage services and car park refurbishments to smaller projects such as window re-glazing and erecting signage.

This week, members of Bentley’s Construction Safety, Environmental & CDM (Construction Design Management) teams presented a Health & Safety Briefing to their contractors from across the United Kingdom. Almost 100 companies were involved in the presentation, which outlined results from a recent HSE Audit.

The presentation emphasised the importance of effective H&S practice by ranking the performance of contractors who have worked for Bentley in 2012. The ranking criteria gave precendece to contractors who had suffered no accidents, no H&S infractions and had reached full compliance from bodies such as CHAS and SAFEcontractor.

Many of the companies featured on the league table are large-scale national companies that serve the entirety of the UK. We are extremely proud that our family-run local business was able to perform at such a high level and prove our worth alongside our contemporaries.
