EPDM Rubber – A Perfect Roofing Solution for Low Slope Roofs

EPDM rubber in roofing systems has been a popular choice of flat-roof material for more than 40 years and is probably the MOST widely used roofing solution for low-slope application on commercial and residential building. It’s a quite simplistic yet durable roofing system – a single ply-rubber sheet that easily adheres with adhesive.

EPDM in rubber roofing

Modern EPDM roofing is available in rolls with a factory applied adhesive on one side. The factory applied tape is laid in to the primed overlap and then rolled with a bit of pressure. The resulting seam is robust, flawlessly straight, and improbable to fail. Even though, this kind of sealant was applied indoors initially, it has now become quite common for outdoor usage as well. When compared to other flat-roofing materials, EPDM isn’t only more flexible, but it shows a very high resistance against the elements as well as physical stress. Because of several benefits, EPDM rubber in roofing could easily be regarded as an ideal solution for RVs, residences, commercial buildings and much more. Typically, EPDM roof membranes are available in black or white, although additional colours such as tan can be obtained from a few manufacturers.

Understanding EPDM rubber

Every time the temperature rises or drops down, rubber roof moves a bit. However, with regards to EPDM Liquid rubber, this will not be an issue. The material is made in such a way that it can easily stretch out even up to 3 times its usual length, making it the perfect solution for virtually any building. While it is flexible enough to install around pipes, gutter and skylights, it will not crack from severe dryness and moisture. EPDM allows vapors and heat to escape from the building without allowing water, heat or any other elements inside.

Benefits of EPDM Rubber in Roofing

* EPDM rubber membranes are completely flexible and have a life span of minimum 50 years
* EPDM roofs are extremely resistant to Ultra violet and infra-red light, with no need for additional surface area protection.
* EPDM roofs offer outstanding resistance to the negative impacts of weather, chemicals and intense industrial pollutants.
* EPDM rubber roofs are incredibly resistance against cold, heat, ozone as well as ageing.
* EPDM does not emit any toxic emissions in case of any fire and the roof membrane is ideal for thermal recycling as well.
* EPDM is extremely elastic, with no shrinking or dimensional change over a temperature range between – 70 to + 120 Degree Centigrade.
* EPDM is recognized as an eco-friendly solution to standard methods.
* EPDM is energy efficient and can save a significant amount of money on utility bills.

Even though EPDM rubber roofing does not require too much maintenance at all, there are specific things you may need to consider when you’ve one such roof structure. For instance, it’s recommended to check on your roof every 3 months as well as clean it, because a lot of debris gathering on it could potentially cause damages to the roof. When compared to getting it re-laid each year, maintaining it once every 3 months is obviously a much better option to look at. A professional roof installation and maintenance company can get all your EPDM roof jobs done immediately.

EPDM roofs are available in rolls, so you only have to lay the roll down on your roof to correctly install it. Naturally, the shape of the roof will directly influence the installation process, making it shorter, longer, simple or even a bit complex. As you can find this kind of roofing obtainable in large sheets, you can easily cover the roof, irrespective of its size. This means there aren’t any joins that may fail. Even flat-roofs that are bonded with more than one pieces of rubber can be joined together to provide a fully reliable protective cover.

And finally, do not forget to completely clean the surface on which your epdm roof will be installed. This will ensure perfect roof installation and also in the long run, it’ll not cause you any troubles. With that said, these are just a few of the top reasons to why people choose EPDM rubber in roofing. If you are going to install a new roof on your home or commercial property soon, you should definitely
