Work shadowing in partnership with West Cheshire College

Maxiflow and West Cheshire College

We at Maxiflow have worked in partnership with our friends at West Cheshire College for a number of years now. We strongly believe that the construction industry presents desirable and fruitful career options for young people. West Cheshire College shares our beliefs, and they have long been supporters of our industry through apprenticeship schemes and other promotions, such as through job fairs and their advisory services.

Last week, a pair of students visited the Maxiflow offices as part of West Cheshire College’s work shadowing scheme. Business Studies students Steven and Will spent a few hours with us observing the day-to-day operations of a small to medium-sized business (SMB).

Will and Steven spent time with several Maxiflow team members, talking about subjects such as marketing, web design, social media, accounting, project management and general business strategies. Both students were enthusiastic and asked questions which delved deeper into topics which were of particular interest to them.

We would like to thank Steven and Will for their time and attention, and hope that we provided some valuable information. We would also like to thank West Cheshire College for including us in their work shadowing scheme, and would be happy to participate again in the future.

Thank you to Tom for an excellent week’s Work Experience!

Work Experience in Chester From Maxiflow and Working 2gether

In partnership with Working 2gether, we have been pioneering a new Work Experience scheme that is helping to introduce young people into the construction industry. From the results and feedback we have received, we believe this scheme has been more than successful!

Last Monday, we talked about a student named Tom who joined the Building team for a week.

We are pleased to report that he performed brilliantly! Above and beyond everyone’s expectations, Tom took to every task that was given to him in a capable and mature manner.

Tom learned quickly (as mentioned previously, he managed to score a perfect 100% in his Manual handling training!) and was never afraid to ask questions when required.

Today we received a letter from Tom thanking us for his experience, which we have transcribed below:

Dear Mr Beatty

Thank you very much for allowing me to spend a week on work experience at Maxiflow. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the company and found the experience interesting and rewarding.

The best part in my work experience was hanging doors and rebuilding the roof on the stables. I would be grateful if you would pass on my thanks to everyone who helped me especially Kevin and Jed.

Yours Sincerely, Tom

We would be happy to welcome anybody to our team who showed such a high level of aptitude and work ethic. Well done and thank you Tom!

Shaping construction’s future with Apprenticeships and Work Experience schemes

Apprenticeships Working Together Celebration

It’s an exciting time to be part of the Maxiflow family! We are currently engaged in two important schemes which are helping to introduce young people to the construction industry.

The National Apprenticeship Service has helped us to discover talented young individuals from West Cheshire College and Mid-Cheshire College who have shown a passion for building and joinery.

We are proud to report that our apprentice Floyd has completed his first year with us, and his first year at West Cheshire College! We have featured his progress throughout the year on this blog, from his introduction to the company through being named Employee of the Month back in October.

Pictured below is director of Maxiflow Building Services Warren Beatty presenting Floyd with his Level 1 Key Skills in Communication certificate, a well-deserved celebration of a year’s hard work.

We would like to publicly congratulate Floyd and thank him for his excellent job performance!

At any age, it can be difficult to figure out a career for yourself. It can be especially tricky in high school, when the working world seems a million years away!

In conjunction with Working2gether we are delighted to reveal that we have undertaken the first stages of a brilliant new work experience scheme.

The term ‘work experience’ can conjure images of high school students arbitrarily assigned to shops, offices and other industries which may be entirely unsuited to their interests. This scheme aims to match students to a wide range of business types, which can help to foster their hobbies into professions.

The scheme is designed to encourage young people to apply their skills to a practical working environment. This is especially useful to students who are interested in jobs within the building trade, as the satisfaction that comes from creating something with your own hands can be appreciated first-hand.

This week, we have taken aboard a student named Tom from Upton High School in Chester. Tom has a keen interest in construction, particularly joinery and other forms of woodworking.

During his induction, Tom successfully completed two of our online training modules, achieving 86% in Asbestos Awareness and an incredible 100% in Manual Handling!

We will do our best to encourage Tom’s obvious natural talent during his time at Maxiflow and wish him the best of luck!
